Dendrobium Orchid Care
Debrobium orchids are epiphytic orchids which
grow well in relatively cool conditions. These beautiful orchids
flower spring to early summer with each flower lasting four to six
weeks. Recommended hybrids include D. infundibulum, D. kingianum and
D. nobile.
Light and Temperature
Best to keep this orchid in bright light however try and filter very
strong direct sunlight through pale curtains or blinds. When the
Dendrobium orchid is actively growing keep the temperature around
60-70 F and spray water over them lightly. When this plant is
resting during the winter, keep the temperature around 60 F.
Water and Feeding
When the plant is flowering, water daily but make sure you don’t
over-water. Make sure that the soil has dried out before watering
again. Watering in the winter should only be done to prevent the
soil from completely drying out. During the active period, feed the
dendrobium with every 3rd or 4th watering.
Pests
D. nobile is prone to red spider mites. These mites love hot dry air
so making sure you dendrobium is well sprayed with water should
prevent an attack. If your dendrobium has been affected then cut
away the bad areas of the plant and spray with a pesticide.
